I joined Bright Star Auctions in 2018 and became a partner in 2019. As the Chief Operations Officer, my role involves leading and managing the operations team, ensuring accountability, and overseeing pre-auction management, inventory management, auction scheduling, auction execution, and our customer service process.
What excites you about working at Bright Star Auctions?
What excites me most about working at Bright Star Auctions is the team members and the culture we have cultivated. The company’s main mission is to show Christ to the world, and being able to do this through our work is awesome.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
What I find most fulfilling is leading and helping grow our team members. I love figuring out new ways to work through obstacles and removing obstacles for my team members. I am most passionate about this aspect of my job. Additionally, I also enjoy helping sell as an auctioneer at our heavy equipment auctions.
Bright Star Auctions initiative involvement:
As the process champion for Bright Star, I have been involved in streamlining our processes and navigating through our accountability chart. This initiative aims to create more efficiencies, which will hopefully affect the bottom line and reduce frustration for team members.
Typical day at Bright Star Auctions:
A typical day at Bright Star for me usually involves morning meetings and a couple of cups of coffee. Wednesdays and Fridays are usually auction days, so I am often assisting with either clerking or selling. When I am not doing those, I am working through project management and addressing any other challenges that might come up. My unusual ability to jump into an auction rant at any given time to break up the monotony might occasionally annoy my team members, but it certainly keeps things lively!
Fun/interesting fact or hobbies:
I enjoy spotting issues and solving problems. Who needs hobbies when you enjoy the work that you do? I have not needed to work a day in my life since working here because I enjoy auctions and I enjoy people!
Free time:
In my free time, I love spending a day on the lake with my wife LaVera, our daughter Khloe who is five, and our twins, Adassah and Obadiah, who will be one this June. Just being out in the sunshine and enjoying the weather with my family is the best way to spend a day.
Most unique item witnessed at auction:
The most unique item I ever got to witness and sell was at Kiser Lumber in Bowman, SC. We had a Hemco Lumber trim and sorting line that we sold for $700,000.
